7 Ways Men Can Improve Their Sexual Health

Men’s Health Week is here, and we’re all for it. Why? Because too many men are walking around with health issues swept under the rug. It’s time to lift that rug, fellas.

Men’s Health week (IMHW) is an annual campaign focusing on increasing awareness of preventable health issues among men of all ages. While no one’s perfect, IMHW aims to help men reflect on their well-being and health, reminding them to see where they can make healthier choices in their life.

In other words, it’s an amazing week to celebrate, and we’re jumping on board. We know that sometimes, even the smallest of changes can make a huge difference. Here are 7 ways you can improve your sexual health.

Leave your couch behind

While the couch is comfy, it’s not doing you any favors. We’re humans, and that means we were born to be active. Do you have to run 10km every day? No. But you do want to spend some time being active.

Regular physical movement is one of the best ways to improve your health and keep your sexual performance up. Breaking a sweat for 30-minutes will maintain a healthy cardiovascular system, which will do wonders for your libido.

Go back to eating the basics

It’s easy to get sucked into quick and convenient meals, but that usually means they’re either fast/frozen food. I’m not saying you need to live like a Buddhist monk, but going back to basics and eating fruits and vegetables will help your sexual health.

Eating foods rich in nutrients and low in fats will help keep your sexual health in check. A study in the journal Atherosclerosis found that men with vitamin D deficiency have a 30% greater risk for erectile dysfunction (ED).

Try new things in the bedroom

To maintain your sexual health, consider exploring your sexual fantasies and desires in the bedroom. If you’re single, you can use sex toys like Kiiroo’s FeelStars to have sexual experiences with some of the most famous adult entertainers.

If you’re in a relationship (long-distance or not), Kiiroo’s couple set will bring extra spice into your relationship, allowing you and your partner to explore fantasies together.

Have some bad habits? Kick them to the curb

Do you drink alcohol? Do you smoke cigarettes? Well, you’re not doing your erections any favors. I don’t want to nag, but smoking and drinking cause significant damage to men’s sexual health.

Various studies have found that most men who experience ED are smokers since smoking damages the arteries that carry blood to the penis. Drinking alcohol can reduce libido, cause erectile issues and make it harder to orgasm.

If you want a strong erection (and I know you do), cut these bad habits.

Masturbate, masturbate, masturbate

A study from Indiana University found that only 57% of straight men masturbate regularly. I’m not saying you need to masturbate every day, but you do need to give your self some TLC.

Masturbating can improve your sexual health by increasing your longevity during sex. Masturbation helps strengthen your pelvic floor, muscles responsible for preventing erectile dysfunction and incontinence. It also comes with a ton of other benefits, including:

  • Improving self-image
  • Boosts your mood
  • Increasing heart health
  • Boosts immunity
  • Helps you fall asleep
  • Improve skin complexion

Manage your stress and anxiety

Stress is an erection killer. There, I said it. When your body is under constant stress and anxiety, it can be hard to maintain an erection. What ends up happening is that when a man struggles with maintaining an erection, they feel even more anxious and stressed, making him less interested in sexual intimacy - and this is how the vicious cycle starts.

I’m going to be honest: managing your stress and anxiety isn’t easy, but it’s completely possible. To help manage stress and anxiety, try the following:

  • Reducing stressful activities in your life
  • Improving close relationships
  • Meditating/deep breathing
  • Working out
  • Focus on foreplay
  • Spending more time on activities you enjoy doing
  • Seeking therapy

Have an annual medical exam

If there’s one thing men collectively don’t like, it’s doctors. Honestly, I get it. While I’m not saying to go weekly to the doctors, you should get an annual medical exam. An annual check-up can help avoid any preventable issues from popping up. Also, if you notice any changes in your body, your doctor will be able to answer any questions you have.

Men’s Health Week is here, and I have one question for you: What are you doing to improve your sexual health?
