9 Cheap Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day
After the Christmas holidays, our bank accounts can feel a little…hmm…overworked? And then, just before you start to recover, Valentine’s day rolls around. But you have to do something on Valentine’s day, right? It’s always nice to celebrate the day of love with something special.
Well, the good thing is, you don’t need to go on a fancy weekend getaway or an overpriced restaurant. There are many ways you can celebrate Valentine’s day on a budget. We’re about to let you in on them.
1. Go for a romantic picnic
Oh, this is a good one. And the best part is that you don’t need much for it to be a success. Grab a blanket, some finger foods, a nice bottle of wine, and head out into nature. You can hike up to the spot or pick something by a lake or river. Just by doing something a little outside of your regular routine will make this day special.
2. Cook a Michelin-star meal
You don’t need to go to a fancy Michelin-star restaurant to enjoy the evening with your partner. Instead, bring the Michelin star meal to you. You don’t need to be the best of the best when it comes to cooking. Just because you decided to cook a romantic meal for your partner will earn you brownie points. Cook a three-course meal (yeah, come on - it’s only for one night!) and treat your partner to a meal from the heart.
3. Write love letters to each other
No one writes love letters anymore. No, not text messages; I’m talking about real letters. You know, the ones made of paper. Spend the evening together writing each other love letters and reading them out loud. You’ll be surprised where a couple of love letters will take you - maybe to the bedroom?
4. Bubble bath for two?
Who doesn’t love a good bubble bath? If you have a bathtub at home, it’s time you used it. Get some bubble bath, maybe a couple of rose petals, put on some music, light some candles, and enjoy the time together soaking in the tub. A real nice touch is if you make some chocolate-covered strawberries. Who doesn’t love soaking in a tub while eating delicious sweets?
5. A night of exploration in the bedroom
If you two are looking for a naughtier Valentine’s day, look no further. It’s time to bring out the toys from your drawer and have a night of exploration. Whether it’s using a couples set, or playing around with a vibrator, spend Valentine’s day learning about each other’s bodies and reaching new heights of pleasure.
6. Spend the night under the stars
Talk about romance - laying under the stars with the person you love next to you; now that’s what I call romantic (and it’s free). You can fill a thermos up with hot chocolate or mulled wine, grab some blankets and go out in nature (or on your roof) to stargaze with your partner.
Laying next to each other, laughing, drinking - it’s a lot of fun and, if you know a little bit about stars, you can impress them with your astronomy knowledge.
7. Have a movie night (a real one)
Why did I say a real one? Well, because with Netflix around, we basically have a movie night every day. Valentine’s day is different from all the other days - it’s the day of celebrating love.
So, make this movie night a little special rather than just flipping on Netflix and passing out on the couch (not talking from experience…). Pick out a Valentine’s day inspired film, make some popcorn, grab some sweet snacks and create a feeling of a real movie night in your living room.
8. Grab a deal on Groupon
You’d be surprised how many deals are available on websites like Groupon. And if you check out Groupon early enough, you’ll get great deals on activities, restaurants, and even trips.
9. Have a karaoke night
You don’t need to head out to a karaoke bar (though you can if you want to); you can have your own intimate karaoke party for two at home. If you have the equipment, great. If not, you can rent it for a cheap night of fun (oh, it’s a lot of fun). You’re at home, so you two can go wild! Crack open a bottle of wine and sing to some of your top hits together.
Now you have the best ideas in the palm of your hand for an amazing Valentine’s day. Which one are you gonna choose?
