Everything You Need to Know About Accidental Orgasms
Usually, it’s openly known that women report struggling with achieving orgasm when it comes to climaxing. Studies show that around 75 percent of all women never reach orgasm from manual stimulation.
About 10 to 15 percent of women never experience a female orgasm. Whereas for most men, it comes much easier (no pun intended). But what we don’t hear much about are people who accidentally orgasm.
You may be scratching your head, wondering how someone can have a spontaneous orgasm. Words like spontaneous, unexpected, and surprise orgasms are also terms used to describe an accidental orgasm. You’re about to find out everything you need to know on accidental orgasms and how they happen.
What are Spontaneous Orgasms?
An unexpected orgasm, also known as a 'coregasm', is an orgasm that happens without any sensory stimulation. Essentially, when you think about it, it’s a hands-free orgasm. These orgasms can be short or a continuous stream of multiple orgasms in a row.
However, in most cases, a surprise orgasm happens out of the blue. Out of the blue? Really? Well, I said some. Researchers have found some causes to explain a surprise orgasm.
What Causes an Unexpected Orgasm?
Interestingly, there are various reasons why men and women experience spontaneous orgasms. Yes, you read right; men can also have unexpected orgasm. That said, the causes of accidental orgasm vary between sex and individual cases.
While for some women and men, spontaneous orgasm happens out of the blue, for others, there are specific reasons why they’re experiencing unexpected orgasm. Some of the causes may surprise you.
Sex is on your mind
Your libido is more powerful than you think. It not only sends feel-good hormones into your body, but it also affects your views on sex and intimacy. Some people have the ability to turn themselves on just through thought.
Let’s say you visualize a hot sex scene you experienced and become aroused. Well, some people can take that a step further and have a hands-free orgasm. Typically, more women than men experience this form of spontaneous orgasm.
Kegels
Kegel exercises, which stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, are known for causing spontaneous orgasm. However, they may not technically be accidental.
When doing Kegels, it can open up a new pathway to having an orgasm as you’re strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. While doing Kegels, you can rub against a mattress or squeeze a blanket in between your legs for a tensing and releasing method for additional pleasure.
Physical stimulation
The body is full of erogenous zones, and many people have yet to discover those zones on their bodies. Everyone has different erogenous zones, and they can influence your ability to have an accidental orgasm. If you stimulate your erogenous zones the right way, it can result in a spontaneous orgasm.
Coregasm
In one study from the Journal of Sexual and Relationship Therapy, around 15 percent of 370 women report reaching sexual climax while doing abdominal exercises. Also known as a coregasm.
Specific abdominal exercises can lead to a female orgasm, with some women saying the captain’s chair exercise leads to stimulation. So, if you were thinking of working out, don’t forget your abdominal exercises.
Cycling
Who thought riding a bike could give you an orgasm? Well, it’s true. Cycling can give you an orgasm in the most unlikely situation. It has a similar effect to the coregasm.
In another study, researchers from Indiana University found that 15.8 percent of over 500 women found that cycling is an orgasm-inducing exercise. So, if you’re interested in achieving orgasm, start riding a bike!
Yoga
No wonder yoga is such a popular activity! You’re focusing on your breathing and being present; no wonder people experience accidental orgasms. Twenty percent of yogis have revealed the poses that allow them to climax:
- Bound angle pose
- Bridge pose
- Eagle pose
- Yogi pose
- Boat pose
These poses all involve the pelvic floor and core muscles. Naturally, don’t assume by doing these poses, you’ll orgasm. However, there’s a higher chance you will orgasm while doing these orgasm-inducing poses.
Massage
Well, I’m sure you like the sound of this. But this isn’t about happy endings. Actually, just having someone rub your back—if it’s your erogenous zone—can elicit an orgasm. If you’re someone who’s easily aroused from massages, make sure to tell your massuese to avoid those places, or it could get a little awkward.
Are accidental orgasms healthy?
If you’re experiencing the occasional spontaneous orgasm, odds are, there’s nothing to worry about. So, enjoy it. But in some cases, it can become a nightmare.
Persistent genital arousal disorder is a rare condition that elicits unwanted and uncontrollable genital arousal without sexual stimulation. This condition is not relieved by orgasm.
People with persistent genital stimulation experience orgasms constantly, lasting hours, days, or weeks at a time. Persistent genital stimulation is not only distracting, but it’s also painful.
The cause of persistent genital arousal disorder is said to be a neurological condition or developed after brain surgery and other medical treatments. This condition is extreme and not typical for most people who experience spontaneous orgasm.
Having an accidental orgasm can be a thrilling and orgasmic experience. Knowing that they exist and that there are activities that can promote them can help you experience one for yourself.
